OCT. 14, 2026, KENTWOOD, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College women's soccer team battled Owens Community College to a 2-2 tie Wednesday in a non-conference match at home, with the Raiders controlling much of the offensive action but unable to hold off a late Express equalizer.
The result moves GRCC to 5-6-2 on the season, while Owens now stands at 4-2-3.
The Raiders struck twice in the opening 16 minutes to take an early lead. Valerie Rosas opened the scoring in the 14th minute, recording her sixth goal of the season off an assist from Hannah Pleiman. Just two minutes later, Nadia Perez capitalized on a misplay by the Owens goalkeeper to score her eighth goal of the year and put GRCC ahead 2-0.
Owens cut the deficit before halftime with a goal in the 41st minute, then found the equalizer in the 85th minute to secure the draw.
Despite the late comeback by the Express, GRCC dominated the statistical categories. The Raiders outshot Owens 20-5 overall and held an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. GRCC also earned nine corner kicks compared to just three for Owens, consistently putting pressure on the Express defense.
With the regular season entering its final stretch, the Raiders have three conference matches remaining as they continue to pursue a possible postseason berth. The postseason outlook has yet to be determined.
GRCC's next match is a key home contest against Schoolcraft College, the defending Region XII champions, at noon on Oct. 16.
