Raiders' Five-Game Win Streak Snapped at KVCC, 108-98

Jan. 28, 2026, TEXAS TWP., Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College men's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night, falling 108–98 on the road to Kalamazoo Valley Community College in conference action.

The loss drops GRCC to 14-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while KVCC improved to 12-8 on the season and 4-2 in league play.

Kalamazoo Valley jumped out to an early 12–3 advantage, but the Raiders quickly responded with a 17–2 run to seize a 20–14 lead — their largest of the night. The teams traded leads three more times before KVCC took the lead for good with 2:33 remaining in the first half. The Cougars closed the opening period on a 9–2 run to take a 50–43 advantage into the break.

GRCC battled throughout the second half and was able to cut the deficit to as close as three points, but KVCC consistently answered on the offensive end to keep the Raiders at bay. Kalamazoo Valley finished with just 10 turnovers compared to GRCC's 20, converting those miscues into 23 points. KVCC also held a decisive edge in transition, scoring 22 fast-break points while limiting GRCC to none.

Despite the loss, the Raiders received strong production from their bench, which outscored KVCC's reserves 40–24. The 108 points allowed marked the most GRCC has surrendered in a game this season.

Nate Keil led the Raiders with 21 points and 10 rebounds, recording his second double-double in the last three games. EJ Bowman added 17 points and a team-high five assists. Matthew Richards posted a season-high 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line, while also tying his season high with eight rebounds. Gaden Muxlow rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists.

GRCC will look to bounce back as conference play resumes at home on Thursday, Jan. 30, when the Raiders host Lansing Community College at 7:30 p.m.
