Jan. 30, 2026, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Rapids Community College basketball split a crucial MCCAA Western Conference doubleheader with visiting Lansing Community College on Friday night, falling to the fourth-ranked Stars on the women's side, 86–41, before the men's team bounced back with a 93–77 victory at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse. Both contests featured teams battling for first place in the conference standings.
Women's Basketball

The GRCC women saw their five-game winning streak come to an end as Lansing CC extended its own run to 10 straight victories. The Raiders dropped to 15-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while the Stars improved to 17-2 (5-0 MCCAA West).
GRCC was held to a season-low 41 points and committed 31 turnovers, while shooting a season-low 19.7 percent from the field. Despite the struggles offensively, the Raiders converted at a season-best rate from the free-throw line, going 14-for-15 (93.3%).
Averi Peot led GRCC with 14 points and eight rebounds. Defensively, the Raiders forced 24 Lansing turnovers, with Harmonie Belton and Alison Rockburn each recording four steals.
Men's Basketball
The GRCC men responded with a strong performance to reclaim sole possession near the top of the MCCAA West, improving to 15-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Lansing fell to 14-5 (4-2). The win also snapped a five-game losing streak against the Stars dating back to 2022.
The first half featured nine lead changes before GRCC closed the period on a decisive 12-0 run, holding Lansing scoreless over the final 3:39 to take a 42–37 lead into the break. The Stars were unable to get closer than five points in the second half as the Raiders controlled the game down the stretch.
GRCC's defense was the difference, limiting Lansing to 36 percent shooting from the field — the third-lowest mark for a Raider opponent this season — and just 15 percent from three-point range, the lowest by any GRCC opponent this year.
Sophomore forward Matthew Richards delivered a career night with 18 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass, and added 14 points. Tyran Thomas finished one point shy of his career high with 24 points, along with six rebounds and three assists. Nate Keil scored 20 points, marking his eighth 20-point game of the season and his third in the last four outings.
Zeek Jackson chipped in 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while EJ Bowman contributed across the board with six rebounds and game highs of seven assists and five steals to go with five points.
