Raiders Sweep Marian University- Ancilla, Extend Win Streaks and Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play

Jan. 21, 2026, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College basketball teams continued their strong conference starts on Wednesday night, earning a home sweep of Marian University-Ancilla.  Both the Raiders women's and men's teams notched their fourth consecutive wins and remained unbeaten in league play.

Women's Basketball

The GRCC women pulled off a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Ancilla, 66-60, improving to 14-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Ancilla dropped to 8-8 (1-2).

GRCC opened the game with a layup and a three-pointer by Tianna Daye to take a 5-2 lead, but Ancilla responded with a 12-0 run and built a commanding advantage. The Chargers led by as many as 16 points (50-34) late in the third quarter and carried a 52-40 lead into the final period.

The Raiders stormed back in the fourth, clamping down defensively and finding timely baskets. Avery DePagter tied the game at 60 with a jumper at the 2:29 mark before Harmonie Belton gave GRCC the lead with a layup with 1:12 remaining. Ancilla was held scoreless over its final 10 possessions. Averi Peot sealed the win with a layup with 30 seconds left and two free throws in the final 15 seconds.

GRCC dominated the glass, outrebounding Ancilla 44-30, and received a big boost from its bench, which outscored Ancilla's reserves 18-0.

Daye led the Raiders with 18 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range, and 5-of-8 from the free-throw line. Belton added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Peot chipped in six points, six rebounds, and a team-high four assists.

Men's Basketball

The GRCC men followed with an offensive explosion, defeating Ancilla 112-87 to improve to 13-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Ancilla fell to 3-16 (0-3). The victory snapped a 12-game losing streak against Ancilla dating back to 2019.

The Raiders set three season highs in the win, scoring a season-best 112 points while making 50 field goals and shooting 64.1 percent from the floor. Thirteen different players scored for GRCC.

Nate Keil led the way with a career-high 30 points on a near-perfect 14-of-16 shooting performance. He recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 rebounds and added four assists. Zeek Jackson posted a strong all-around effort with 20 points, five assists, and a career-high 13 rebounds, while Tyran Thomas added 18 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Matthew Richards contributed 10 points and six rebounds, and EJ Bowman tallied eight points while dishing out a game-high 12 assists, the second-most by a Raider this season.
