Jan. 17, 2026, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College basketball teams opened conference play at home in dominant fashion on Saturday, earning a sweep over Southwestern Michigan College to remain unbeaten in the league at 2-0.
Women's Basketball
The GRCC women snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Roadrunners and never trailed in an emphatic 81–55 victory. The Raiders jumped out to a 22–9 lead after the first quarter and withstood a third-quarter push that saw SMC cut the margin to three before GRCC pulled away, cruising to a 26-point win.
GRCC improved to 13–5 overall and 2–0 in conference play, while SMC fell to 7–9 (1–2).
The Raiders shot a season-best 46.2% from three-point range (12-of-26) and continued their defensive pressure by forcing at least 20 turnovers for the 12th consecutive game.
Sophomore Sophia Wozniak led the way with a career-high 23 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the field, 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 4-of-4 at the free-throw line. Her five made three-pointers were also a career high.
Sophomore Averi Peot posted 11 points along with career highs in rebounds (13) and assists (4), while adding two blocks. Tianna Daye and Harmonie Belton each chipped in 10 points. Emma Pizarazzi scored nine points, all on three-pointers, and recorded a career-high five assists.
Men's Basketball
The GRCC men followed with a convincing 97–64 victory, improving to 12–4 overall and 2–0 in conference play. Southwestern Michigan College dropped to 8–9 (1–2).
The Raiders took care of the basketball, committing a season-low seven turnovers while forcing 16, and controlled the game on both ends of the floor.
E.J. Bowman poured in a game-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-9 from three-point range, with the five made threes marking a career high. Bowman also led the team with four steals and four assists. Tyran Thomas added 13 points and five rebounds, while Matt Richards contributed 12 points, three assists, and a team-high eight rebounds. Nate Keil finished with 11 points and seven boards, and Zachary Carlson tallied seven points, three assists, and three steals.

Both GRCC teams return to action on the road at Lake Michigan College on Friday, January 19, in a makeup conference game originally scheduled for last week. The women will tip off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men.
