Jan. 10, 2025, BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College Raiders opened conference play in emphatic fashion Saturday, earning a road sweep at Kellogg Community College as both the women's and men's basketball teams picked up victories at KCC's Miller Building.
Women's Basketball: GRCC 84, Kellogg CC 52
The Raider women never trailed in their conference opener, rolling to an 84–52 win to improve to 12–5 overall and 1–0 in conference. Kellogg fell to 4–11 (0–1).
Balance and ball pressure fueled the victory as 11 different Raiders scored. Turnovers proved decisive: GRCC forced 35 Kellogg miscues while committing just 14, creating a massive shot-attempt advantage (84–55).
- Sophia Wozniak led the way with 14 points, adding 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
- Averi Peot chipped in 13 points, shooting 5-for-7 from the field and 3-for-4 at the line.
- Harmonie Belton delivered a standout all-around performance with 12 points, a career- and team-high 9 rebounds, career-high 7 assists, plus 2 blocks and 5 steals.
Men's Basketball: GRCC 96, Kellogg CC 89
The Raider men followed with a hard-fought 96–89 win, moving to 11–4 overall and 1–0 in conference. The Bruins slipped to 11–5 (0–1).
GRCC controlled the first half, building a lead as large as 21 points and taking a 54–36 advantage into the break while shooting 53% overall and 64% from three.
Kellogg rallied late to cut the deficit to three with a minute remaining, but the Raiders sealed the win by converting eight free throws down the stretch.
- Jared Demoff poured in a career-high 23 points (6–13 FG, 4–5 3FG, 7–10 FT) and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds for his first career double-double, adding 2 steals.
- Tyran Thomas recorded his sixth career double-double with 20 points (8–16 FG) and 10 rebounds.
- EJ Bowman totaled 18 points (4–8 3FG), a game-high 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.
- Lucas Pitsch tied his career high with 12 points (5–10 FG) and also matched a career best with 5 assists.
