Box Score 4 Sept. 26, 2025, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It was a full day of competition for Grand Rapids Community College Athletics on Friday, with the 15th-ranked volleyball team sweeping Alpena Community College, both soccer teams hosting Muskegon Community College, and the cross country teams running in the Western Conference Championships in Dowagiac.
Volleyball
They Raiders continued its strong start to the season, sweeping its opponent for the second straight day with a 25-20, 25-13, 25-13 victory at Alpena Community College. The Raiders had swept Delta College on Thursday.
The win improved GRCC to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The team is back on the court Saturday at Bay College, with the match starting at 1:00 p.m.

Women's Soccer
In a defensive battle at Midwest United FC, GRCC and Muskegon Community College played to a 0-0 draw. The tie brings the Raiders' record to 3-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.
Men's Soccer
The men's team came up short in its home contest, falling 2-1 to MCC. GRCC missed a golden opportunity early, failing to convert a penalty kick with 29:27 left in the first half. Just 33 seconds later, Muskegon scored from 20 yards out to take the lead. The Jayhawks extended it to 2-0 in the 49th minute.
Elvin Bajric netted his fourth goal of the season in the 68th minute, but despite outshooting MCC 24-15, the Raiders couldn't find the equalizer. GRCC dropped to 3-4-1 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Both Raider soccer teams resume conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 1, when they host Lake Michigan College at 2:00 p.m. as part of GRCC's Homecoming Day.
Women's Cross Country (Official Results)
The Raiders finished third in the Western Conference Championship despite some tough luck. Freshman Mackenzie Baldrica, who was leading the race, and sophomore Gloria Gaston both had mishaps that prevented their scores from counting. Without them, GRCC narrowly missed out on the title, finishing with 49 points behind Southwestern Michigan (47) and Lansing CC (48).
Three GRCC runners earned All-Conference honors by placing in the top 12:
- Suzannah DiPiazza – 3rd, 21:07
- Vivian Idziak – 5th, 21:18 (PR)
- Leah Williams – 11th, 22:16
DiPiazza and Idziak also earned spots on the Western Conference All-Freshman Team, awarded to the top six freshmen finishers.
Other GRCC finishers included Binti Abdi (15th, 23:24), Sophia DiPiazza (18th, 23:51), and Kadie Norman (23rd, 24:34).
Men's Cross Country (Official Results)
The GRCC men's team placed second in the championship, scoring 48 points behind Lansing CC (39). Southwestern Michigan was third with 56, and Kellogg CC finished fourth with 88.
Three Raiders earned All-Conference honors:
- Isaac Skinner – 3rd, 27:59
- Brady Morrow – 6th, 28:54
- Corey Jones – 12th, 29:37
Morrow also made the Western Conference All-Freshman Team.
Other Raider finishers included Nate Fahey (13th, 29:47), John DiPiazza (14th, 29:52), Oscar Andrade-Nava (29th, 36:26), and Sam Pugh (33rd, 38:56).
What's Next
Both cross country teams will compete again on Oct. 11 at the Muskegon CC Invitational before heading into regional championships.
