Aug. 29 2025, KENTWOOD, MICH. – Grand Rapids Community College's soccer teams thrilled the home crowd at Midwest United Field on Saturday, with the women's team earning a 3-0 victory over Grace Christian University and the men's team rolling to a 4-0 win over Aquinas College's junior varsity squad.
The women's win lifted the Raiders to 2-1 on the season, while the men's team started their campaign with a statement shutout in their season opener.
Women's Game: GRCC 3, Grace Christian 0
After a scoreless first half that saw GRCC generate 11 shots to Grace Christian's three, the Raiders' attack erupted after the break. Freshman Quincy Brown broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, racing behind the defense for her second goal of the season.
Freshman Skyelar Albrecht then took over, scoring twice in a four-minute span. She found the net in the 73rd minute off a feed from Ellie Lazowski, then added her second of the match in the 77th minute on an assist from Brown.
Albrecht led the Raiders with five shots, as the team fired 13 after halftime to finish with 24 overall. Goalkeepers Mallory Amaya Allen and Nyleese Bazan-Hernandez once again shared duties, splitting time for the third straight contest to combine on the shutout.
The Raiders return to action Sept. 6 when they travel to face Cornerstone University's Reserve team.
Men's Game: GRCC 4, Aquinas JV 0
The men's team wasted little time in its season opener, with sophomore Brandon Gomez converting a penalty kick just seven minutes in. Freshman Dominic Diaz added his first collegiate goal in the 20th minute, finishing a cross from Joel Ramirez.
Sophomore Elvin Bajric stretched the lead with goals in the 32nd and 51st minutes, the second coming on an assist from Lucas Bouma.
GRCC outshot Aquinas 21-8 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Dylan Hudson made three saves over 79:30 to record the victory, with fellow freshman Zander Daley closing out the final 10 minutes in net.
The Raiders (1-0) continue their homestand Sept. 5, hosting Triton College at noon.
