Aug. 27 2025, KENTWOOD, MICH. – The Grand Rapids Community College women's soccer team dropped its home opener on Thursday, falling 3-1 to defending Region XII champion Kellogg Community College at Midwest United's Field.
Kellogg (1-0) controlled the opening half, out shooting the Raiders 5-1. The Bruins struck first in the 13th minute when Kendall Wank scored to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The second half was more evenly played, with both teams recording seven shots. The Bruins extended their advantage before GRCC freshman Lanee Lewkowski scored her first collegiate goal in the 82nd minute, finishing off a corner kick assist from Skyelar Albrecht to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Any hopes of a late comeback were halted when Kellogg's Mayell Diaz converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute to secure the 3-1 result.
As in the season opener, the Raiders (1-1) split goalkeeping duties between Mallory Amaya Allen and Nyleese Bazan-Hernandez, who combined for several key saves.
GRCC will look to bounce back on Friday, August 29, when the Raiders host Grace Christian University in a 2 p.m. non-conference matchup at Midwest United (South) Field.
