Raiders Sweep Final Day in Petoskey; Both Teams Open 2025-26 Season 2-0

Tianna Day and Zeek Jackson named Tournament MVPs

Nov. 2, 2025, PETOSKEY, Mich. – Grand Rapids Community College basketball capped off an impressive opening weekend with two more victories Sunday at the BC Pizza Petoskey Timberwolves Tip-Off Tournament, as both the men's and women's teams improved to 2-0 to begin the 2025-26 season.

Women's: GRCC 75, North Central Michigan 27

The Raiders' defense dominated from start to finish, holding host North Central Michigan scoreless in the second quarter and to just 27 points overall in a 75-27 victory.

Tournament MVP Tianna Daye led GRCC with 16 points, including four three-pointers, and added eight steals. Averi Peot - who also was named to the All-Tournament Team - scored eight points and added seven steals. Ta'tyana Hardiman scored eight points, while Alison Rockburn contributed eight points and five rebounds. GRCC forced 43 turnovers and recorded 24 steals as a team.

The Raiders jumped out to a 17-9 lead after one quarter, then blew the game open with a 26-0 second quarter run, taking a 43-9 advantage into halftime. GRCC continued its strong play after the break, outscoring the Timberwolves 24-7 in the third quarter.

The win completes a 2-0 weekend for the Raiders, who also defeated Kirtland Community College on Saturday. GRCC will next travel to the Lake Land College Tournament in Mattoon, Ill., for games on Nov. 7 and 8.

Men's: GRCC 99, North Central Michigan 78

The Raider men followed the women's performance with an offensive showcase, defeating North Central Michigan 99-78 to also start their season 2-0.

Tournament MVP Zeekeal Jackson led GRCC with 22 points while shooting 9-of-11 from the floor and added six rebounds. Nate Keil scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while E.J. Bowman totaled 18 points and four rebounds. Jared Demoff added 10 points and six rebounds, and Gaden Muxlow scored eight points. Tyran Thomas - who was also named to the All-Tournament Team - recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

GRCC led 52-41 at halftime and outscored North Central 47-37 in the second half to secure the victory.

The win closed out a perfect opening weekend for head coach Joe Fox's squad after a strong season-opening win Saturday. The Raiders return home for their next game on Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m., hosting Alpena Community College at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse.
