Oct. 11, 2025, MUSKEGON, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College cross country teams turned in strong performances at the Muskegon Community College Jayhawk Invitational on Saturday at University Park Golf Course, with both squads recording multiple personal records and top JUCO finishes in competitive fields loaded with four-year programs.
Men's Team – 7th Overall, 3rd Among JUCOs
In a race featuring 187 runners and 16 complete teams, the Raider men placed 7th overall with 229 points — the third-best finish among junior colleges in a field that included seven four-year schools and nine JUCO programs.
Grand Valley State University and defending NJCAA DII national champion Lansing Community College tied for the team title with a score of 30 points. GVSU's Will Engbers won the race individually in 25:13.
Four GRCC runners set personal bests, led by sophomore Isaac Skinner, who clocked a PR of 26:29 to place 35th overall and 13th among all JUCO competitors. Corey Jones followed in 60th place (27:03, PR), while Brady Morrow was 67th (27:20, PR) and Nate Fahey finished 87th (27:50). Rounding out the scoring lineup were John DiPiazza (90th, 27:59), Ralph White (148th, 31:01, PR), and Sam Pugh (173rd, 33:29).
Women's Team – 8th Overall, 4th Among JUCOs
The GRCC women also impressed in a 149-runner field, placing 8th overall with 236 points — fourth among seven junior college programs and nine four-year schools. Six Raiders recorded personal bests in the race.
Wayne State University dominated the team competition with just 22 points. Muskegon CC led all junior colleges with 184 points (6th overall), followed by St. Clair County CC (7th, 227 points).
Freshman Mackenzie Baldrica paced the Raiders, finishing 22nd overall and 4th among all JUCO runners with a personal-best time of 19:11. Sophomore Gloria Gaston crossed in 62nd (20:30), followed by freshmen Suzannah DiPiazza (68th, 20:36, PR), Leah Williams (81st, 21:01, PR), Sophia DiPiazza (86th, 21:10, PR), Vivian Idziak (102nd, 21:44), Binti Abdi (111th, 22:06, PR), and Kadie Norman (126th, 23:06, PR).
Both Raider squads now have two weeks to prepare for the MCCAA/Region XII Championship in Marysville, Michigan, on October 24, where they'll look to build on their momentum and continue lowering times in the final stretch of the season.
