Soccer teams make it a sweep over visiting LMC

Men extending win streak to three

Sept. 18, 2024, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Community College's men's soccer team extended its win streak to three while the women's soccer team cruised to its first victory of the season on Wednesday.  It was both teams conference opener. 

Women's Soccer Recap

The women's soccer team (1-4-1) picked up its first win of the season by defeating Lake Michigan College 5-1 at the Midwest United Complex. 

The Raiders got on board first after a penalty kick goal by Alexandria Ellsworth just 1:40 into the game.  

Twenty minutes later, Ava Simonson would find Claira Deyoung to make it 2-0.  

LMC got on board in the 28th minute, but it was all the scoring they would receive.  Isabella Edwards-Parker had excellent command of the box all game long for the Raiders.

GRCC scored its final three goals in the second half: Allyson Seevers (50:36), Simonson (55:13) and Emily Krampitz (83:30).

The Raiders doubled up the Red Hawks in shots, and had 15 corners compared to 0 for LMC. 

Men's Soccer Recap

The men's soccer team (3-3-1) wasted little time, scoring its first goal just eight seconds into the game. Cristian Diaz scored the goal, his second of the season.

Sean Gieske made it 2-0 with his third goal of the season at the 25:12 mark. Sophomore Jordan Marquez scored his first goal of the season at the 46:25 mark and freshman Elvis Bajric netted his third goal of the season at the 76:07 mark.

MCCAA goalkeeper of the week, Brett Miller, nearly had his third straight shutout, but Lake Michigan College ended that run with a goal at the 54:59 mark. 

Elijah Maas is now on a four game assist streak with two against LMC.  The sophomore now leads the team with six.

Bajric, Rodrigo Perez and Nick Stemmer also had assists for the Raiders.

Both soccer teams will travel to Kirtland, OH to take on Lakeland Community College on Saturday.
