Dec. 10, 2024, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Community College's men's basketball team continued its torrid stretch, overwhelming Alma College JV 123-63 on Tuesday night in what was their most dominant performance of the season. The Raiders improved to 10-2 overall with their seventh consecutive victory, punctuated by a season-best 60-point margin of victory.
GRCC set the tone early, using a 16-0 run midway through the first half to seize control. By halftime, the Raiders had built a commanding 57-31 lead and never looked back. Demonstrating relentless energy and efficiency, GRCC outperformed Alma across the board.
The Raiders showcased their depth and teamwork as 17 of the team's 18 players scored, and they recorded season highs in rebounds (60) and assists (35). Shooting a season-best 57% from the field compared to Alma's 32.9%, GRCC also dominated the boards, out rebounding their opponent 60-30.
Freshmen Ethan Bennett and Benjamin Koubek led the way offensively, each scoring 13 points on perfect shooting. Both players went 6-for-6 from the field and 1-for-1 from beyond the arc, with Bennett adding seven rebounds. Supporting the scoring effort were Bashir Neely, Marshaun Flakes, and J.D. DeGroot, who each tallied 12 points. Flakes also contributed five assists and four steals, while Javon Golson controlled the glass with a game-high 13 rebounds to complement his six points.
This marks the fourth time in their last five games that GRCC has eclipsed the 100-point mark, underscoring the team's explosive offense. Head coach Joe Fox praised the team's unselfish play and energy, saying, "This was a complete team effort. To see 17 players contribute and the way we shared the ball tonight was special."
The Raiders now turn their focus to an upcoming road trip to Illinois, where they'll face Oakton College on Dec. 14 and South Suburban College on Dec. 16.
