Dec. 1, 2024, SIDNEY, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College's men's basketball team capped off the Montcalm County Shootout in emphatic fashion, cruising past Camp Battlegrounds Prep 108-73 on Sunday. The Raiders showcased their depth, versatility, and dominance, improving to 6-2 on the season and extending their winning streak to three games.
GRCC set the tone early and never relinquished control, leading by as many as 42 points (100-58) in a game where they never trailed. The win marked the second consecutive game in which all 18 players on the roster saw court time, with 16 contributing to the scoring column.
Head coach Joe Fox praised his team's effort and balance, "The guys played with great energy and focus today. To get contributions from nearly everyone is a testament to how hard they're working and buying into the system."
The numbers told the story of GRCC's dominance:
- Field Goals: 51.1% to 38.1%
- Three-Pointers: 36.8% to 21.7%
- Free Throws: 75% to 57.1%
- Rebounds: 54 to 45
- Assists: 29 to 14
- Blocks: 10 to 4
- Steals: 16 to 6
The Raiders' bench delivered a staggering 61 points, further highlighting the team's depth.
Player Highlights
- Bashir Neely led all scorers with 18 points on an efficient 7-for-11 shooting, adding four rebounds and two assists.
- Javon Golson posted a double-double with 17 points (8-for-10 FG) and a team-high 12 rebounds.
- Tyran Thomas contributed 14 points and two blocks.
- Jack Agema and Zachary Carlson orchestrated the offense with six and five assists, respectively.
- Ethan Bennett anchored the defense with three blocks.
GRCC's relentless energy and cohesive play overwhelmed Camp Battlegrounds Prep, particularly in the second half when the Raiders continued to build their lead.
The Raiders will return to their home court on December 4 to face Kirtland Community College at 7:30 p.m.
