Raiders route the Firebirds in season-high fashion

Women winning by 22 and the men 57

Jan. 27, 2024, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Both Grand Rapids Community College's basketball teams rebounded from tough losses the other night by routing Kirtland Community College in season-high fashion on Saturday.

In the first game of the day, the women's team exploded for 21 points in the first quarter and in the end beat the Firebirds, 59-37. The 22-point margin of victory tied a season-high that they also achieved when beating Alpena a week ago.

Tia Richard scored 17 of her career-high 25 points in the first half, including connecting on her first four three-point attempts.  

Noli Brown, the newest member to the Raider squad, scored her first points of the season, five, and also had a career-high four rebounds and five steals.  

Anna Tubbergen had a career-high six rebounds and teammates Sophia Modderman and Kaylie VanDerHulst added 12 and 10 boards.

GRCC's men's team led by as 59 and ended up defeating Kirtland, 116-59.

As a team, the Raiders set season-highs in points scored, margin of victory (57), rebounds (60), assists (30) and was one three short of tying a season-high with 15. 

All 13 Raiders scored at least three points and all but one player had at least two rebounds.  Also, eight different players connected on at least one three pointer, including Mason Wilcox who was 4-for-4.  He also had a season-high five rebounds.

Joe Francis led the team with 19 points, followed by Darrell Belcher with 16, Wilcox 14, and Logan Dunbar and Jack Agema with 11.

Javon Golson led the team with 10 rebounds and Agema led the team with six assists. 

GRCC will be back at home again on Wednesday when they face off against Delta College in another MCCAA doubleheader.
