Sept. 4, 2023, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It was a difficult task at hand, but the Grand Rapids Community College men's soccer team stood up for the challenge against Aquinas College's varsity team on Monday.
It took nearly 30 minutes before GRCC's stifling defense gave up its first goal of the season, giving Aquinas a 1-0 lead.
Aquinas tacked on one more (a penalty kick) in the first half against Brett Miller, who was coming off a season high 10 saves in his last match.
Daniel Beyer played goalkeeper for the final 22 minutes of the match and the Saints would score two more goals to complete a 4-0 shutout.
The Saints out shot GRCC 28 to 10, with 11 being on net, compared to two on net for GRCC.
Miller had five saves and Beyer had two.
GRCC will be back at home on Wednesday in a 4 p.m. match up against Lake Michigan College.
