Box Score 3 Sept. 6, 2023, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – On a busy Wednesday at Grand Rapids Community College, both soccer programs and the volleyball team cruised to victories over their respective opponents.
In the first match of the day, the women's soccer team rolled to a 6-0 victory against Lake Michigan College.
Abigail Buttermore had a hat trick at the 30-minute mark of the match and that was just the beginning for the freshman captain. She also added assists on the next two goals from Allyson Seevers. She now as a team-high eight goals and 19 points.
Seevers two goals gives her five on the season as her team improved to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Claira Deyoung netted her first career goal at the 81-minute mark to finish the scoring for the Raiders.
In the men's soccer match, the 13th ranked Raiders dominated Lake Michigan College on both sides of the field, defeating them 9-0 and improving to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
NJCAA DII player of the week, Mohamed Tamour, and teammate Elijah Maas each had a hat trick and two assists. That makes eight goals in the last three conference matches for Tamour and 11 on the season.
Jaret Jaramillo netted his third goal of the season while Ian Gunderson and Chase Laarman netted their first goals.
GRCC totaled 47 shots (17 on net) to just three (one on net) for LMC. GRCC added 18 corner kicks.
GRCC's volleyball team faced Grace Christian University's varsity program in its home opener and prevailed 3-1 after a competitive first three sets followed by a dominant fourth; 25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 25-12.
Reigning conference players of the week, Lillian Peterson and Vienna Koenigsknecht, led the offense and defense once again. Peterson had 17 kills and four blocks while Koenigsknecht had 24 digs and three aces.
Lizzie MacIntosh also put together a great performance with 15 kills and a career-high .406 hitting percentage. She also had five aces and nine digs.
GRCC's soccer teams will face Lake Michigan College again on Saturday with 1 and 3 p.m. kick off times. The volleyball team returns home on Sept. 12 to take on Muskegon Community College.
