Sept. 28, 2023, KENTWOOD, Mich. – Grand Rapids Community College's Mohamed Tamour and Alexander Lagazo each scored two goals in a 7-1 route over Cornerstone University's junior varsity team on Thursday.
GRCC, ranked No. 12 in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, improved to 9-1-1 and are now on a four-match win streak.
It didn't take long for each team to get on board with GRCC's Chibambo Munguakonkwa and Cornerstone's Caleb Taylor scoring penalty kicks in the first seven minutes of play.
Jordan Marquez erased the tie with a cross pass goal from Alexander Harrington at the 10 minute mark.
Tamour, the nation's leading goal scorer, scored his first goal of the match at the 11:10 mark and then a second one at the 51:27 mark. He also added an assist on Lucas Freriks goal at 55:06. Tamour now has 19 goals on the season and is second in the nation in points scored with 39.
Lagazo doubled his season total with goals at the 31:23 mark and 65:24 mark.
Elijah Maas had two assists bringing his season total to 11, and putting him top-5 in the nation.
GRCC's defense continued its dominance allowing just three shots and the only shot on goal was the penalty kick.
GRCC will be back in conference play on Oct. 4 when they take on Jackson College at home.
