Aug. 29, 2023, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College men's and women's soccer teams continued their perfect week with a sweep over Marian University-Ancilla on Tuesday, both in shutout fashion while seeing one Raider earn his first collegiate hat trick.
The men's team is now 3-0 to start the season and still haven't allowed a goal after an impressive 7-0 victory over Ancilla. They have now scored 21 goals after 6-0 and 8-0 victories in their first two games.
Mohamed Tamour become the first GRCC soccer player with a hat trick after scoring the first goal and the final two goals of the game. The striker from Wyoming has six goals in his first three games as a Raider.
Lucas Freriks nearly had a hat trick himself scoring two goals within a minute in the second half.
Hani Alturkmani and Chibambo Munguakonkwa were the other goal scorers for GRCC.
Elijah Maas led the team with two assists, giving him three on the season.
GRCC's women's team evened their record at 2-2 after a 4-0 dominating win that saw 25 shots to just 13 for the Chargers.
Kaitlyn O'Brien picked up the win playing all 90 minutes while saving seven shots on goal.
Midfielder Brooklyn Williams scored her first two goals on the season, one coming just three minutes in the game.
Abigail Buttermore scored a goal for the third game in a row that gave GRCC a 3-0 lead at the 33:39 mark of the first half.
Amelia Hancock scored the other goal for GRCC, her first of her career.
Samantha Hunting had another assist, giving her four on the season.
Both soccer programs will be back at home on Sept. 1 to take on nationally ranked Schoolcraft College with a 1 p.m. kick off time.
