Aug. 26, 2023, GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College women's soccer team earned its first ever victory on Saturday by defeating Terra State Community College 4-3 and the men's team stay perfect on the year with a dominating 8-0 win.
"I am really happy for the team," said women's head coach Jason Hill. "The players come to training every day to push themselves to get better. Sometimes it takes a new team a while to come together. Today's victory is a positive step for the program that I couldn't be more proud of."
GRCC (1-2) scored all four its goals in the first half and held on to win despite giving up three goals in the second half.
Abigail Buttermore scored her second goal of the season to give GRCC their first goal of the game. Ryliee Bjorkman scored the second goal of the game and Allyson Seevers scored her second and third goals of the season to finish off the GRCC scoring.
Samantha Hunting had two assists and Bjorkman and Claira Deyoung had the other two.
The men's team led just 1-0 after one half, but exploded for seven goals in the second half in route to their second shutout to start the season.
Mohamed Tamour scored two goals, giving him a team-high three for the season.
Alexander Lagazo, Cole Drozdowski, Jaret Jaramillo and Lucas Freriks all scored their second goals of the year.
Hani Alturkmani and Cristian Diaz scored their first goals of the season.
Chase Laarman led the team with two assists.
Both soccer programs will be back at home on the 29th to take on Marion University-Ancilla with a 2 p.m. kick off time.
