Raiders Roll Past LMC to Open Up Regionals and Berry named the Conference Player of the Year

Seven other Raiders named All-Conference

Nov. 2, 2023, PORT HURON, Mich. – Exciting day for the Grand Rapids Community College volleyball team, winning its opening round match at the Region XII Tournament and finding out that eight Raiders earned All-Conference, including Braelyn Berry who was named the Player of the Year.

GRCC, ranked No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, opened up regional competition against Lake Michigan College, who finished second in its conference.

The Raiders played about as well as you could in the first set, hitting .519 and earning 21 points in a 25-11 victory.  LMC responded by winning the second set 25-21, but GRCC's offense was too much for the Red Hawks in the final two sets.  The Raiders won 25-16 and 25-17 to advance to the winners bracket final to face Mott College in tomorrow's 5 p.m. match.

Berry and Lizzie MacIntosh led the match with 12 kills each, but the Raiders got strong performances from a host of other players.

Ava Schultz had a career match, with 10 kills, just one error and hit .429.  Middles, Sophie Ritsema and Mo Winstanley combined for 14 kills and hit over .300.  Winstanley also had a career-high seven blocks.

Earlier in the day, the Michigan Community College Athletic Association announced it's all-conference honorees with a record eight GRCC players on the list, including Berry who was named the Conference Player of the Year.
