Muskegon, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Community College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (17-25, 23-25, 17-25) to Muskegon Community College in the NJCAA District A Championship on Friday night. The Raiders finish the 2021 campaign with a record of 8-5 and second in the conference.
The Raiders made it to the finals after having both the quarterfinal and semi-final matches canceled. The cancellation of both matches automatically advanced the Raiders to the finals to take on the undefeated and #12 nationally ranked Jayhawks.
As a team, Muskegon led in all statistical categories including; kills (39-31), aces (9-1), assists (37-28), digs (53-45), and blocks (8-7). Individually, Sophomore
Kylie Oberlin totaled 12 kills paired with a .579 hitting percentage, while
Annie Holesinger and
Gabi Kitley had 8 and 4 kills respectively. Sophomore setter
Kailey Carmean tallied 26 assists and freshman
Audrey Gower recorded 14 digs.
Post season awards are due to be announced April 5th at 10 AM.
