Plymouth, Ind. – Hallee Breimayer's career high 25 points was not enough as the visiting Raiders lost to Ancilla College Monday night by a final of 83-70. The loss drops the Raiders to 12-7 overall and 3-5 in the conference. The Chargers improve to 10-9 and 4-5.
Both teams went on a scoring frenzy in the opening half, shooting nearly 50% from the field and the Chargers would head into halftime up 48-43. Breimayer (Belding, MI) scored 14 points in the half and LaRae Rascoe (27 pts-13 reb-5 assists) had 16 for the Chargers. Rayven Mondy (Kentwood, MI), making the start for Mady Miller who sat out to due to a minor injury, connected on all five three point attempts in the second quarter and added three rebounds to help keep the Raiders in the ball game.
Ancilla's Jaela Meister put the Chargers up 50-43, but the Raiders went on a 6-0 run to close the gap to one point with 6:08 left in the third quarter. That would be as close as the Raiders would get. The Chargers finished the quarter on a 15-7 run to take a nine point lead going in to the fourth and would lead by as many 17.
The defending District Champions shot 47% from the field in the game while the Raiders cooled off to 35% after a 46% clip in the first half. As they have done pretty much every game this season, the rebounding battle went to the Raiders, 44-41. The Chargers won the turnover margin, 13 to 17.
Breimayer's career high 25 points included two three's and 9 of 13 from the charity stripe. Sophomore's Mya Jordan (Kentwood, MI) and Emily Pendred (East Lansing, MI) were each just one basket away from double doubles. Jordan totaled eight points and a game high 15 rebounds. Pendred had eight points and 11 rebounds.
The Raiders will look to rebound when they host two games this week at Hunsberger Arena. Jackson College comes to town on Wednesday the 6th. The Jets are now in third place in the conference with a 7-2 record after beating Kellogg Community College 67-60 Monday night.
