Raiders Drop a One Point Decision to the Visiting Jets

Grand Rapids, Mich. -- In a game separated by single digits the entire way, it would come down to the wire, and the visiting Jets would prevail, 54-53. The loss by the Raiders drops their record to 12-8 overall and 3-6 in the conference. The red hot Jets, who started the season 1-7 are now 9-9 and 8-2 in the conference.

The Raiders (playing without their starting guard Madelynn Miller (Elkhart, IN) for the second straight game) jumped out to an 8-0 lead after back to back three's, one by Hallee Breimayer (Belding, MI) and the other Rayven Mondy (Kentwood, MI).  Jackson College's Bre'Aira Burton hit a three of her own to make it 12-8 after one.  Mondy added three more three pointers in the second quarter, including a buzzer to end the half with her team up 31-25.

It was a block party in the opening half as both teams combined for 14, including six from Raider sophomore Mya Jordan (Kentwood, MI).  Each team made six three pointers, had 13 turnovers and six steals.

The Jet's Charyanna Pershay (team high 18 points, 14 rebounds, 4 blocks and 6 steals) gave her team their first lead with 7:25 left in the third quarter.  Three minutes later, Mondy connected on her fifth three of the game, making it 38-34 Raiders. The Jets would close the quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 44-40 lead going in the final quarter.

Jackson led the rest of the game, but after a Pershay "and one" made it 54-46, the Jets couldn't score the remaining 4:36 of the game. Jordan scored a layup after a Breimayer steal with 47 seconds to go making it a one point game.  The Raider rally would fall short though as they would miss a three as time expired.

Mondy, who had 15 points Monday against Ancilla, lead the Raiders with 16 on 5 of 12 shooting.  Jordan nearly picked her a triple-double with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 7 blocks.  Breimayer, the Raiders leading scorer, was limited to 10 points but had 7 assists and 5 steals.  Emily Pendred (East Lansing, MI) had her best rebounding performance with 22 on the night, including 11 on the offensive side.

The Raiders are scheduled to play their third game in five days as they return home on Friday to take on 14th ranked Muskegon Community College.  The Jayhawks have won 10 in a row and are 18-2 overall and 10-1 in the conference.  Tip-off is at 5:30 pm.
