Season Best Offensive Performance Propels Raiders Past Ancilla 84-75

Grand Rapids, Mich. -- Season's high in points and field goal percentage propelled the Raiders to an 84-75 win on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders who already clinched a berth in the NJCAA District Tournament are now all alone in 5th place with a 17-10 (8-8) record.  The Chargers drop to 13-13 (7-9), but clinched a berth in Districts after Lansing Community College lost Saturday.

Sophomore's Mya Jordan (Kentwood, MI) and Hallee Breimayer (Belding, MI) scored 21 of the Raiders 26 first quarter points.  As a team, the Raiders shot 56% from the field including four of eight from behind the arc.  Both teams played an even second quarter scoring 18 points a piece, but Jordan (who already had a double-double) and her Raiders led 44-33 at the break.

The Raiders extended their lead to 18 on three different occasions in the third period and led 63-46 going into the fourth.  Early in the fourth, Breimayer put her team up 22, but the Chargers weren't going to go down without a fight.  Even after one of the conference's best players, LaRae Rascoe (16 points-7 rebounds-4 assists) fouled out with 4:23 to go, the Chargers would make it just a seven point game with 57 seconds left.  That's as close as Ancilla would get and the Raiders would prevail snapping a four game losing streak to the Chargers.

For the game, the Raiders shot a season high 42.3% from the field and they also connected on 11 of their 14 free throw attempts.  GRCC had 18 assists to just 11 for Ancilla and also out rebounded the Chargers 53 to 38.

Jordan finished with 16 points, a season high 16 rebounds and six blocked shots. It was her ninth double-double of the year.  Breimayer scored a game high 23 points, her third highest of the season, on 7 of 14 from the field and 4 of 8 from three point distance.  She also added a game high 6 assists and 2 steals. Emily Pendred (East Lansing, MI) was 6 of 7 from the field finishing with 12 points and 14 rebounds.  Aaliyah Sargent (Cedar Springs, MI) added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.  Madelynn Miller (Elkhart, IN), who hadn't played since suffering an injury on January 25th, made her return by scoring 7 points off the bench.

The Raiders will conclude conference play next week before the District Tournament begins on March 5th.  They travel to Kellogg Community College (whom they beat 58-54 in their first meeting) on Monday and then return home for the conference finale on Wednesday February 27th.  The Raiders will also be celebrating the careers of their sophomore class that day.
