Mondy’s Career High 22 Points Not Enough in Loss at LMC

Benton Harbor, Mich. – Rayven Mondy scored a career high 22 points but it wasn't enough as the Raiders fall to Lake Michigan College on Wednesday night, 62-45.  With the win the Red Hawks stay in contention for a conference title improving to 21-5 and 13-2.  The Raiders drop to 16-10 and 7-8, still needing just one more victory to clinch a district tournament berth.

The Red Hawks (tied with Muskegon CC for the conference lead) led 18-15 after the first quarter, but an 11-1 Raider gave the visitors a 24-19 lead with five minutes left in the second quarter.  LMC closed the first half on a 9-1 run to take a 28-25 lead going into the locker room. Rayven Mondy (Kentwood, MI) scored 12 points to lead the Raiders including three of her five total 3 pointers.

The game remained close until late in the third quarter.  The Red Hawks turned a 34 all ball game into a 46-34 lead going into the final quarter.  GRCC was out rebounded 23-10 in the third and ended up losing the rebound battle 67-43 for the game.

The Raiders ended the game shooting 32% from the field while holding the LMC to 28%. The Raiders also had more block shots, 9 to 7, with Kendall Griffioen (Hudsonville, MI) and Mya Jordan (Kentwood, MI) combining for 7 of them.  The Red Hawks turned the ball 14 times while the Raiders had 23.

With just three conference games remaining, the Raiders need just one more victory to clinch a spot in the NJCAA Region XII Tournament.  They currently are tied with Ancilla College for fifth place, but currently Ancilla has the tie-breaker.  Both teams will meet up Saturday afternoon in Hunsberger Arena.  Game time is 1:00 PM.
