Raiders Season Low Seven Turnovers In Victory Over Vikings

Grand Rapids, Mich. -- The Raiders continue to roll after winning their fourth straight game Friday night with a 76-49 victory over the visitors of Glen Oaks.  In the process, they turned the ball over a season low seven times and had one of their best shooting performances as well.  The win keeps the Raiders at fifth place in the conference with a 16-8 (7-6) record.  The Vikings are now 5-18 overall and 1-12 in the league with both squads having just five regular season games remaining.

The Raiders, who remain one of the conference's best defensive teams (holding teams to 56.8 points/game) held the Vikings to just four points in the first quarter and 20 in the first half.  During the four game win streak, the Raiders have held each opponent to under 50 points a contest and their opponents shot just 25% overall from the field.

The Vikings defense played tough for the first three quarters and early in the third it was just a five point game. Shakaya Rogers scored seven of her team high 15 points in the quarter, but after her free throw with 4:32 on the clock, the Vikings would go cold.  A 7:13 scoring drought that carried into the fourth gave the Raiders a 27 point lead after 19 straight points.

In the fourth, the Raider offense erupted for 28 points and shot a staggering 58% from the field.  Freshman center Kendall Griffioen (Hudsonville, MI) had 11 points and Rayven Mondy (Kentwood, MI) added 9 points.  Griffioen ended up with a career night totaling 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks.  Mondy also had a season high in points, scoring 17 while adding 5 rebounds.  In the absense of starting guard Mady Miller, Mondy now has scored in double figures four of the past five games.

Not be out done, two other Raiders put up season bests in the victory.  Sophomore guard Aaliyah Sargent (Cedar Springs, MI) had 14 points, 4 field goals, 4 free throws and 2 three's made (all season highs).  Aaliyah Sargent (Cedar Springs, MI) had 16 points and a season best 9 assists and just one turnover.

The Raiders will have the weekend off, but will be right back at it on Monday the 18th, in another make up game, this time against Mid Michigan College.  Last time the two teams met it was the conference opener in Mt. Pleasant and the Lakers won 82-45.  Mid Michigan currently sits in third place in the conference with an 18-3 (9-3) record. Game time set for 5:30 PM.
