Lansing, Mich. – The Raiders came into the state capital looking to earn their third straight win. In another dominating defense performance, they would get just that to even up their conference record with a 61-42 victory over Lansing Community College. Sophomore Mya Jordan (Kentwood, MI) exploded for 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Raiders to their 15th victory of the season and improve to 6-6 in conference play. Lansing drops to 6-17 overall and 2-10 in the conference.
The Stars had the lead much of the first five minutes of the ball game, before a big bucket by Jordan gave the Raiders an 8-7 lead with 5:46 on the clock. Hallee Breimayer (Belding, MI) capped off a 12-0 run that went into the second quarter to make it 16-7 and the Raiders never looked back. The defense allowed a season low 13 points in the first half as the visitors headed into the locker room up 17. Every Raider scored and grabbed at least one board in the opening half, led by Jordan's 8 points and Emily Pendred's (East Lansing, MI) 11 rebounds.
Both teams played evenly in the second half with the Raiders outscoring the Stars 31-29. The Raiders led by as many as 20 and the Stars could only get to within 14 points. Jordan's dominating performance included 8 of 13 from the field in the second half, totaling 16 of her game high 24 points. Jaylynn Williams scored 17 of her team high 23 points in the half for the Stars.
The Raiders outrebounded the Stars 61-42, making it the sixth time this season they have out rebounded their opponents by 10 or more. The Raider defense allowed their third lowest points of the season and also the third least opponent's field goal shooting at 21.7%. Offensively the Raiders had 19 assists on 25 field goals, led by Breimayer who had nine (her highest of the season). The sophomore is averaging 7.8 assists in her last four games and now has 107 on the season. She also scored 8 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and had 3 steals.
Pendred had one of her best all-around games of the season, totaling 14 points on 6 of 11 from the floor to go with her game high 15 rebounds, 8 which came on the offensive end. Aaliyah Sargent (Cedar Springs, MI) had 5 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Kendall Griffioen (Hudsonville, MI) finished with 5 rebounds and totaled 7 of the team's 12 blocked shots.
The Raiders will be back in action Friday night as they take on the Vikings of Glen Oaks. In their first meeting in January, the Raiders handled the Vikings by a final of 71-44. The Vikings are currently 5-16 overall and 1-10 in the conference and will play Thursday night against Jackson.
