Muskegon Mich. -- The Raiders and Jayhawks played a tight game for most of the night, but in the end the Jayhawks came out victorious, 69-56. With the win, Muskegon improves to 10-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The loss, their third straight, puts the Raiders record at 9-5 and 0-3 in the conference.
Sophomore point guard, Elysia Bolles, scored a season high 30 points while grabbing 7 rebounds and dished out 3 assists. In the first half she was 7 of 10 from the field scoring 17 points and led her team to a 36-30 halftime lead. A three pointer by the Raiders
Carlee Odom (Centreville, MI) with 3:39 left gave GRCC a 28-27 lead, but the home team finished the half on a 9-2 run.
Delaney Bolles (14 points-13 rebounds) had a steal and bucket just a minute and 20 seconds into the 3rd quarter, giving her team an 8 point advantage, but the Raiders would respond on an 11-2 run. That run included 3 three pointers, one from
Aaliyah Sargent (Cedar Springs, MI) and two from freshman guard,
Madelynn Miller (Elkhart, IN). That gave the Raiders a 41-40 lead.
The Jayhawks finished the third quarter on a 12-4 run, taking a 57-45 lead going into the fourth. The Raiders got as close as an eight point deficit after two quick buckets by Miller and
Hallee Breimayer (Belding, MI) to start the final quarter, but the three ball wouldn't fall (0 for 9 in the quarter) and the Jayhawks would hang on for the victory.
All eight Raiders that saw the court finished with at least 2 points and 2 rebounds. They were led by Breimayer's 13 points and 6 rebounds.
Mya Jordan (Kentwood, MI) contributed with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals.
Rayven Mondy (Kentwood, MI) came off the bench scoring 9 points on 4 of 6 shooting and 1 for 1 from the behind the arc. Miller finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Sargent had a season high 7 assists to go with her 7 points.
The Raiders finally return home for the first time since last season as they take on Lansing Community College this Friday night at the newly renovated Ford Fieldhouse. The Stars will come in the game with a 4-10 overall record and 0-3 in the conference. The lost have lose three in row as well after dropping a 64-53 decision to Jackson College on Wednesday night.
