Grand Rapids, Mich. -- Playing in their first game in the newly renovated Ford Fieldhouse the Raiders scored 11 of the final 12 points, completing the comeback and defeating the visiting Stars, 50-46. The Raiders snapped a three game skid to improve to 10-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Stars dropped their fourth in a row and are now in last place in the conference with a 4-11 (0-4) record.
Despite low turnovers for each team, both teams struggled shooting the ball (31% combined from the field), but it was any ones game with 10 lead changes and no one leading by more than a few points almost all night. LCC's Jaylynn Williams (17 points-7 rebounds) three pointer with 2:49 left in the game made it 45-39 Stars, but then things got real interesting.
Each team would miss a couple shots on their next possessions and then with 1:27 remaining, the Raiders
Hallee Breimayer (Belding, MI) got her first clutch steal of the game taking it all the down for the layup to make it a 45-41 ball game. The Raiders would then get the ball back with 57 seconds to go after the Stars third straight turnover.
A long two point field goal by Freshman
Mady Miller (Elkhart, IN) cut the deficit down to just two with 51 seconds to go. Then after LCC's Jessica Taylor (23 points-5 rebounds) made one of two from the charity stripe, Miller would connect again. This time a straight ahead jumper from deep downtown that would tie the ball game for the 8th time with just 19 seconds remaining. After an LCC timeout, Briemayer made her second huge steal on the inbounds pass, also taking it in for the layup giving her team a 48-46 lead. The Stars Tanaesha Daniels, who had a team high 13 rebounds, couldn't connect on a jumper with 6 seconds to go and Breimayer would finish the game by making two free throws to seal the victory.
For the game, the Raiders finished with a season low 7 turnovers, surpassing their previous low of 14 from a couple weeks ago. They had 8 blocks and 5 steals compared to no blocks and 3 steals for the visitors. Every Raider got in the scoring column with Miller and
Mya Jordan (Kentwood, MI) leading the way with 11 each. Briemayer finished with 10 points and team high 4 steals.
Emily Pendred (East Lansing, MI) had a team high 13 rebounds, making it the 10th time this season that the sophomore has had 10 or more boards.
The Raiders will be back on the road next Wednesday as they travel to Centreville, Michigan to take on Glen Oaks Community College. The Vikings are 4-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference after losing 75-55 to Jackson College on Saturday afternoon.
