Centreville, Mich. – Complete team effort propelled the Raiders to a convincing 71-44 over the Vikings of Glen Oaks Community College. All nine Raiders scored and grabbed at least one rebound, and all but one finished with an assist. With the win, the visitors upped their record to 11-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The loss for the home team drops the Vikings to 4-11 and 0-5 in the MCCAA-West.
The Raiders jumped out to 15-7 lead and never looked back. After the first quarter, five Raiders had already scored and they led the Vikings 17-12. They shot 42%, had just three turnovers and out rebounded Glen Oaks 14-5. For the game, they had 66 rebounds compared to just 30 for the Vikings. It was the 12th time in 16 games that the Raiders have out rebounded their opponents. In the second, seven different Raiders scored and they would stretch their lead to 33-20 at the half.
For the third straight time the Raiders had a big run to begin the quarter. After a Briona Gilson (20 points-9 rebounds-4 steals) bucket to start the half, the Raiders went on a 10-2 run to go in front of the Vikings 43-24 with 4:36 left in the third. They held the Vikings to 19% shooting and took a 52-30 lead heading into the final period.
Sophomore forward, Mya Jordan (Kentwood, MI), scored 7 of the Raiders 19 total points in the final period while her team out rebounded the Vikings 22-11 and the Raiders cruised for their second straight win and 11th of the season.
The bench played a huge role in the success of the Raiders on night, outscoring the Vikings 32-6. Coming off the bench for the first time all year, Jordan would end up with a game high 19 points to go with her 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Emily Pendred (East Lansing, MI) picked up her 3rd double-double of the season with 10 and 10. Sophomore Kenzie Omness (Grandville, MI) had one of her best performances of the year, with 9 points and 13 rebounds, 9 of which came on the offensive end. The Raiders ended up with 27 second chance points to just 6 for Glen Oaks.
It's homecoming this Friday for the Raiders as they will play host to Lake Michigan College. Free food will be provided before the start of the women's game. The Red Hawks stayed in 2nd place in the conference with an 81-74 win at Jackson on Wednesday. LMC is now 12-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
