Hallee Breimayer (Belding, MI) scored a team high 18 points, but it wasn't enough as her Raiders fall to the LMC Red Hawks 62-39 on Homecoming at GRCC. The loss snaps a two game win streak and drops the Raiders record to 11-6 and 2-4 in the conference. Lake Michigan is now on a three game win streak and stay in second place in the conference with a 13-4 (5-1 record).
The Red Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Raiders finally got on board after a Breimayer three 4:52 into the quarter. She ended up scoring the only other Raider's basket and LMC led 18-5 after one.
LMC freshman, Taylor Cegelis (12 points-11 rebounds-8 blocks) scored the first basket of the second quarter putting her team up 15. A 13-5 Raider run (that including five free throws and two 3 pointers), cut the deficit down to 7, but that's as close as GRCC would get. At the half, the Red Hawks led 32-18.
The Red Hawks led by as many as 22 in third quarter, but the Raiders outscored the visitors 9-0 to finish the quarter down just 13. GR shot a game high 44% and had 5 steals in the third. In the fourth though, LMC would outscore GR 16-6 as the Raiders shot 11% from the field while this time LMC would shoot 44%.
For the game, Lake Michigan shot 32% from the field, had 57 rebounds, 18 assists, and 16 turnovers. On the contrary, GR was 19%, had 45 boards, 8 assists and committed 25 turnovers.
Breimayer, who now averages 14.5 points per game, knocked down a season high 5 triples on only 10 tries. Mya Jordan finished with 6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals. Emily Pendred added 12 rebounds and a block in 25 minutes.
The Raiders will look to get back on track next Wednesday as they travel to Ancilla College to face the Chargers. Ancilla plays Sunday against Jackson College and they currently sit at 8-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
