Pendred Dominates and Carries Team to a 58-54 Victory Over Kellogg

Grand Rapids, Mich. -- Raider sophomore, Emily Pendred (East Lansing, MI), had one of the best games of her career in helping her team to a 58-54 much needed win over the Bruins of Kellogg Community College. The win improves the Raiders to 12-6 overall and 3-4 in the conference. The Bruins drop to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in the MCCAA-West.

Pendred finished the game with 18 points on 7 of 12 from the field, 15 rebounds and three steals. It would be her fourth double-double of the year and seventh straight game with 10 or more rebounds. She now ranks third in the MCCAA in total rebounds (205) and is fifth overall averaging 11.4/game.

David Glazier's Raiders, whom have won all five meetings against Kellogg since he become head coach in 2016, jumped out to leads of 6-0 and 13-4, but a DeeDee Post three with three seconds left made it 15-10 after one.   The Raiders, who out rebounded the Bruins 53-33 for the game had 17 alone in the opening period, but more impressively they had zero turnovers.

The Raiders stretched their lead to 12 on a Rayven Mondy (Kentwood, MI) three with 3:30 left in the second, and would take a 29-21 lead going into the break. In the third, the Bruins would trail by as many as 11, but two free throws by Post with no time left on the clock would make it just a 45-42 ball game.

Emma Samson gave her team their first lead of the game just over a minute into the final quarter making it 47-45.  Then both teams traded leads until the final two and half minutes, when Mya Jordan (Kentwood, MI) grabbed her own rebound and layed it up giving her team a 55-54 advantage.

Kellogg had multiple chances to regain the lead, but after their 10th straight field goal miss with 19 seconds to go, Pendred would grab her 15th and most important rebound. She would quickly be fouled and go to line to make one of two, putting her team up 57-54. Just five seconds later after an offensive rebound on the free throw miss, Hallee Breimayer (Belding, MI) would make one of two from the line herself to secure the Raider's win.

Besides rebounding, the Raiders won a couple other battles.  They totaled 25 points off turnovers compared to just eight for Kellogg, and they had 21 second chance points vs. just six for Kellogg.

Jordan finished with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and a block. Breimayer totaled 11 points, 8 steals, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a couple of blocks. Madelynn Miller (Elkhart, IN) chipped in 10 points with 5 boards, 3 steals and 3 assists.

The Raiders will travel to Kalamazoo Valley Community College next Wednesday the 30th to take on the Cougars who are 8-8 and 2-5 in the conference.  A win would keep the Raiders in fifth place near the midway point of the conference season.
