Raiders Drop 2nd Game in a Row to Begin Conference Play

Summit Township, Mich. -- For the second straight game the Raider offense couldn't get anything going and despite good defensive play, they lost to Jackson College by a final of 58-39 on Saturday afternoon. The difference was in the first and fourth quarters where the Jets outscored the visiting Raiders 39-16 and held GR to just 20% shooting from the field.

The game got off to a very slow start for both teams. Midway through the first, the score was just 6-3 in favor of the Jets. Jackson finished the quarter on a 12-2 run to lead 16-5. Both teams would score 9 points and shoot less than 30% in the second quarter as the Jets took a 25-14 lead going into halftime.

Back to back three's by Freshmen Madelynn Miller (Elkhart, IN) and Rayven Mondy (Kentwood, MI) got the Raiders to within six with 1:10 remaining in the 3rd quarter, but that's as close as they would get.  The Jets exploded for 23 points in the final quarter on 50% shooting in route to the 19 point victory.  With the win, the Jets stay a top the Western Conference while the Raiders drop to 0-2.

The Raiders leading scorer, Hallee Breimayer (Belding, MI) (16.1/game) was limited for the second straight game. The sophomore point guard was 1 for 9 from the field and had 3 points in 34 minutes.  Every Raider got in the scoring column, led by Miller's 9 and Mondy's 8. Emily Pendred (East Lansing, MI) led all players with 13 rebounds to go with her 6 points and 5 steals. Pendred now has 8 games with 10 or more rebounds. She was one of the nation's leading rebounders during her freshman season.

Up next for the 9-4 (0-2) Raiders will be a trip to Muskegon Community College next Wednesday where they take on the Jayhawks who are 8-3 and also 0-2 thus fare in the conference.
