Mt. Pleasant, Mich. – The unbeaten and 18th ranked Mid-Michigan College women's basketball team improved their record to 10-0 after beating the Raiders 82-45 to open up conference play. The loss snapped a six game winning streak for the Raiders, but still have an impressive 9-3 overall record.
The Lakers stingy defense forced 10 Raider turnovers in the opening quarter and despite a long Hallee Breimayer (Belding '17) bucket as time expired they led 18-11. The Lakers extended their lead to 38-21 at the half with the Raiders shooting just 15% for the quarter.
Things didn't get much better for the Raiders in the third quarter, as the Lakers went on a 17-0 to start the half before a free throw by Aaliyah Sargent ended the drought with 3:04 left in the third.
The Raiders saved their best ball for the final period, scoring 20 points and having just three turnovers, but the deficit was just too large to overcome. Sophomore forward, Mya Jordan (Godwin Heights '17), scored 11 of her team high 18 points in the quarter. Jordan also totaled seven rebounds, a game high five steals and a career high seven blocks.
Breimayer finished with 12 points and five rebounds and sophomore center, Emily Pendred (East Lansing '16), had a game high 13 points.
The Raiders will look to get back in the win column as they travel to Jackson on Saturday to take on the Jets at 1:00 PM. The Jets, just 2-7 on the season, but have won two in a row including a win Thursday at Muskegon CC and a win on Monday against the 9th ranked team in the nation.
