Box Score 4 The Grand Rapids Community College volleyball team finished 3-1 this past weekend at the Owens invitational. The Raiders went undefeated on day one defeating Waubonsee Community College and NJCAA Division 1 Vincennnes University.
In the first match against Waubonsee, the Raiders won 25-20, 25-19, 25-19. Leading the way was sophomore outside hitter,
Kendra DeJonge. DeJonge put down 15 kills on 39 attempts, while also recording two service aces and picking up 9 digs. Sophomore Middle Blocker,
Kayla Salyer had 5 kills on 12 attempts and did not record a single error, good for an impressive .417 hitting percentage. Salyer also recorded 5 blocks during the 3 set match. Setters

Jamie Wellet ran the show for the Raiders, both Autumn (14 assists) and Jamie (12 assists) reached double digits in assists. Freshman libero

In the second match, the Raiders defeated Division I NJCAA Vincennes University 3-1, with scores of 25-22, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20. Kendra DeJonge had another strong match putting away 19 kills on 49 swings, while only recording 3 errors. Kayla Salyer had another match where she did not record a single attacking error. Ally German all recorded 7 kills a piece. Sophomore setter Autumn Severn dished out 25 assists while picking up 8 digs. Freshman libero Katelynn Kietzman led the team with 21 digs and also picked up 2 service aces.
The following day, the Raiders faced #2 nationally ranked Parkland College. The Raiders fell to the Cobras 0-3 with scores of 18-25, 17-25, 18-25. Kendra DeJonge recorded a double-double leading the Raiders in kills (13) and digs (11). Dani Johnston, Emma Pachulski, and Kayla Salyer all recorded at least 2 kills, while Johnston, Salyer and German combine for 7 blocks during the match. The last match of the weekend was a sweep, as the Raiders defeated #15 Mott 3-0, with scores of 25-19, 26-24, 25-23. Kendra DeJonge led the Raiders in kills (16) and blocks (3). She also had 8 pick ups during the match. Freshman Dani Johnston recorded 7 kills on 17 attempts while only recording 1 error. Johnston had a team high, 13 digs during the match and also recorded 2 service aces. Lauren Jonker had her best match of the season thus far. Jonker had 5 kills on 11 attempts and didn't record a single error, Jonker also picked up 2 blocks. Sophomore setter, Autumn Severn led the Raiders with 23 assists, and was second on the team with 9 digs during the match, Severn also recorded 2 service aces.
The Raiders are back on the road Tuesday, September 4 as they take on Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor at 6:30 PM
