Raiders Look to Clinch 7th Title in Past Nine Years

Grand Rapids, Mich. -- Tuesday's match will featuring the third ranked Raiders and the Chargers of Ancilla College.  In the Chip Will era, the Raiders have a 21-1 record against the Chargers.  Earlier this year, the Raiders got the best of the Chargers in a 3-0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-13) win at Ancilla.  GRCC is going for its 40th straight win in the conference and 15th straight win at home.  Now let's take a closer look at both teams.

Ancilla – The visitors will come into Tuesday's match with an 11-16 overall record, sitting at 5th place in the conference with a 6-7 record…. Just as she did last year, Sophomore RS/MB, Darrain Mowery (125 kills/25 blocks) has scored nearly a ¼ of the total Ancilla points, averaging 3.9/set.  Jessica Tuttle (1.89 kills/set) and Bailey Storey (1.52 kills/set) are the next best attackers and scorers on the Chargers roster.  Defensively, Ancilla is led by Magdalene Gingerich and Morgan Fulayter who have combined to average around 7 digs/set.  Xena Newland is the teams second best blocker, averaging nearly one/set.

Grand Rapids CC – The third ranked Raiders (20-1/13-0), have won 14 straight overall and maintain a two match lead for first place in the conference over Muskegon CC.  One of the nation's best attackers, Kendra DeJonge, continues her hot streak as she is now averaging over four kills/set.  The Freshman Outside went for 22 kills against MCC and then a career high 24 (in just three sets) against Kellogg last week.  Sophomore Right Side, Hannah Stearns continues to impress as well, combining for 28 kills and three blocks last week.  Sophomore Libero, Peyton Helsen, needs just 17 digs to give her 300 on the year.  She is averaging 4.16/set and also leads the team with 25 aces, one more than her sister Lauren, who is the team leader in assists with 538.  The other half of the 6-2 offense, Autumn Severn, needs just 17 more assists to give her 200 during her Freshman campaign.  Severn is fourth on the team with 15 aces.

WHATS AT STAKE:  After this match, the Raiders will have just two matches remaining in the regular season, while the Chargers will have five left.  A win for the Raiders and they clinch their 7th conference title in the past nine years and a first round bye in regionals.  It also means the Raiders will host this year's MCCAA Tournament that takes place Saturday, October 28th at noon.  If the Chargers win tonight they still will have a chance to make this year's regional tournament.  Thank you all for coming!  Enjoy the match and see you on Thursday for Homecoming/Sophomore Night!
