Grand Rapids, Mich -- With just five games remain the regular season play, the GRCC men's basketball team is tied for second in the MCCAA west after routing Muskegon Community College 82-63.
Leading the charge on Friday night were
Cameron Burhannon and
Calvin Ward III who each went off for a double-double. Burhannon finished the night with 27 points, 12 rebounds and six assists while Ward III finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Â As a pair, Ward and Burhannon matched the entire Jayhawk team in rebounds.
DeMarkus Stuckey struggled from the field shooting just 3-of-13 for 7 points, but found his teammated when it counted earning 10 asissts on the night. Â
Kevin Brower finished the contest with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Â
Jeffrey Drake-Todd shot a perfect 4-of-4 from the field with 3-of-3 from behind the arc to finish with 11 points while adding 4 assists.
GRCC dominated the Jawhawks in the paint, out rebounding Muskegon 55 to 28.
Muskegon was led offensively by Deshawn Sanders and Will Robertson. Â Sanders finished the contest with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Robinson finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
The win leaves GRCC with a 7-4 conference record and in a three way tie for second in the west with Muskegon and Kalamazoo--all three now two games behind first place Lake Michigan College at 9-2.
GRCC faces sixth place Ancilla College next on Wednesday February 11th at 7:30PM and then Jackson College on Friday February 13th before taking on Lansing, Lake Michigan and Kalamazoo Valley to close the regular season.
Each game remaining is a "must win".
