Grand Rapids, Mich. – In a fiercely competitive match, the Lady Raiders made enough plays in the fifth set to edge Jackson College, 3 sets to 2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-13) on Tuesday night (Oct. 27) from Gordon Hunsberger Arena.
In a back and forth contest the Raiders took the first and third sets, while the Jets of Jackson College held on to win the second and fourth sets respectively. Both teams front lines hit the ball with velocity and made it tough on either defense to transition.
The height of Jackson College held GRCC in check for most of the match. However, in crunch time GRCC's outside hitters came to life.
Lauren Wieber (20 kills) and
Selena Golnick (15 Kills, 2 assists) consistently found holes in the Jets blocks and pounded the ball home with authority in the fifth set, leading the Raiders to their 12 consecutive victory.
