Perrysburgh, OH—For the first time in school history the Raiders have qualified for the semifinal round of the national tournament. The girls advanced after a quick 3 set victory over Kishwaukee Community College, the 20th ranked team in the nation. The Raiders won 3-0 with set scores of 25-14, 25-21 and 25-19.
GRCC certainly has a great deal of momentum heading into the semifinal round where they’ll square off against Parkland College. The win over Kishwaukee brings their winning streak to an astounding 28 straight matches. During the win streak they’ve dropped only a stingy 5 sets.
Although the squad is playing with a lot of tenacity, there is still much to accomplish. Teams do not qualify for the national tournament by chance, and certainly do not make the final four without a great deal of talent to boast. Parkland College may be another familiar foe, but they are definitely not one to take lightly.
The Raiders bested Parkland earlier this season earlier this season when Owens Community College hosted their annual invite by a score of 3-1. At the time, Parkland had earned a nod as the #7 ranked team in the nation. Since then they’ve managed to work their way into the #6 slot.
Parkland has done some very impressive things this season. The Cobras have racked up a 10 game win streak, gone undefeated in their conference, and have defeated some very talented teams. Parkland has bested a few nationally ranked teams including #7 Lincoln Land Community College, #8 Vincennes University and #12 Johnson County Community College.
The semifinal round will feature some of the best volleyball that the nation has to offer. Game time is at 6:30 in the SHAC at Owens Community College. For further information regarding tournament scheduling please click here.
