Grand Rapids, MI—GRCC’s 6th ranked Raider football team routs Harper College 50-7 in the 3rd Ender Twin Bowl claiming the MFC East Division Championship. The Hawks came out swinging and posted the first score of the contest, but the Raiders had more than the Hawks could handle as they went on to win big again and remain undefeated at Houseman Field.
Defensively the now 9-0 Raiders were simply too much for the Hawks. Altogether the Raider defense totaled 9.5 sacks and 15 tackles for losses for 112 yards. The defensive line was exceedingly impressive. Marcus Cribbs, Malcolm Goines, Corey Stone, Aaron Kaczmarski , Terrell Clinkscale, Ben Hayes and Travis Mikita combined for 20 tackles and 5.5 sacks.
The pressure was simply too much for the Hawks. GRCC held Harper to only 84 yards of total offense.
Offensively the Raiders started slower than usual, but finished the game with 542 total yards of offense. Quarterback Cody Kater finished the game 17-of-22 for 184 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He carried the ball nine times for 69 yards and two touchdowns.
The ground attack for the Raiders was led by Antwan Gilbert who rushed six times for 83 yards and one touchdown. Jayshon Jackson and Devin Jarret combined for 139 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns, and Tahj Dent rushed 5 times for 79 yards—one of those five being a 61 yard jaunt for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Receiver Keyon Cole caught the only touchdown pass from Kater, but fellow receivers Corey Smith, Elan Banks and Brian Parker all contributed with 13 receptions for 164 yards.
The Raiders face the College of DuPage next Saturday October 29th at 1:00 PM with a chance of finishing their regular season undefeated.
