Rylee Storms, a sophomore at GRCC, is coming into the 2016 season as a red-shirt freshman wearing #10. Storms has been on the team for a little over a year now and is looking forward to getting to play this season after being a non-participant during the 2015 season.
Storms resides from Grand Rapids and graduated from Northview High School in 2015. During her first year at GRCC she earned a 3.9 GPA, made the Dean’s List, and was a Raider Award Recipient. Over the summer, she was in the office a lot as she is an Administrative Assistant at a non-profit organization. When she wasn’t working she spent time catching up with some old friends from high school.
At the Meet the Team picnic on July 31st, she gained confidence going into the season when she saw all of the girls on the team. Storms states, “We look a lot better than what we did last year at this time.” She sees the potential of the group and is looking forward to reaching it. Coming into this season as having been a non-participant, Storms feels she is a lot smarter than she was before and has become a strong mental player. Her only hesitation about getting back in the game is that she over-thinks a lot when playing and it can hinder her performance.
Storms see the team as a strong one for many reasons. There are a lot more girls that are all very well-rounded players. With so many people able to play each spot, it creates some healthy competition on the team that pushes each girl to work her hardest and to keep getting better and better. Her only fear is that the girls will be too focused about keeping their spot on the court and not focused enough on playing as a team.
Her involvement on the team has been a good experience so far and she has had a lot of fun. The team has become a sort of family to the girls. Storms reflects, “I get a lot closer to these girls than I ever have with any other team.” She can’t wait to have fun this season and reach for the goal of winning a National Championship.
