Associate Head Coach, David Rawles, enters his tenth season at GRCC, bringing with him over 25 years of coaching experience--most of those years coaching college volleyball at its highest level.
Before coaching at GRCC, Rawles spent the previous two collegiate seasons with the University Of Notre Dame competing in the Big East and then the ACC. After coaching the 2006 season in the Big Ten with Michigan State University he took over a struggling Aquinas College program in the NAIA. After five seasons of being the head coach at Aquinas College he had the program competing and ranked in the top 25 in the country. His team went 102-42 (.708) over his last four seasons at AQ.
During his time at Aquinas, Rawles founded the Saints Volleyball Club which began operations in 2008. Along with helping student athletes become better volleyball players on and off the court, the club has helped propel student athletes' moves up to the next level to continue to play volleyball in the NAIA as well as the highest level, Division I (NCAA).
Before finding himself preparing for teams like Penn State and UCLA, Rawles excelled in the High School ranks winning a State Championship in 2006 at North Muskegon High School.
As a player, like most males that get involved in the sport of volleyball, Rawles picked the game up on the beach. He competed on the EVP/MPVA from 2000 through 2008. He was a Rookie of the Year finalist in 2000 and received Most Improved Player in 2001. Rawles, fought his way to being one of the best defensive players on the tour, and was ranked as high as number three in the 2006 tour.
