Coach Fox is entering his 4th season as the men's basketball coach at GRCC, and his 2nd year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Academic Services.  Prior to joining GRCC in the summer of 2019, he spent the past two seasons working under Chuck Winkelman with the women’s basketball program at Calvin College (NCAA-Division III). Before working at Calvin, Joe spent five years at the junior college level.  In three seasons working under the leadership of Hall of Fame coach Mike Ingram at Lansing Community College, LCC accumulated 79 wins, including two conference championships, two regional championships, and two top-8 finishes at the NJCAA Division II National Championships.  In two years at GRCC under the leadership of TJ Carnegie from 2012-2014, the team accumulated 38 wins, and earned one berth to the NJCAA Division II National Championships.  

In his career at the junior college level, Coach Fox has helped 39 players move on to 4-year schools at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels, as well as the NAIA and NCCAA. These student-athletes include those who have gone on to be All-Conference honorees, All-Americans, National Champions, and professionals. 

Fox's coaching roots run deep.  His father Gary Fox and grandfather George Fox both coached in the Michigan High School basketball ranks for 25 years.  George won a state championship with Magic Johnson at Lansing Everett High School in 1977.  Coach Fox’s basketball coaching experience includes student-athlete academic support, floor coaching, strength & conditioning development, scouting reports, practice planning, film breakdown, and recruitment of prospective student-athletes.

Fox earned a Bachelor's degree of Arts in History from Michigan State University and earned his Master’s Degree in Higher Education from Grand Valley State University in 2019.  He and his wife Meghan live in Jenison with their son Kal.  Meghan earned her Ph.D. from Michigan State University and is an Associate Professor of Athletic Training within the Department of Movement Science at Grand Valley State University.  She played college softball at NCAA Division II Lincoln Memorial University in her home state of Tennessee.
