David E. Selmon (a native of Mansfield, Ohio), spent 19 years as head coach of GRJC/CC's men's basketball program after two years as an assistant at GRJC under Granville Brown.
Before coaching, Selmon played basketball at GRJC for two years (1984-1986) for Hall of Fame coach Gene Paxton. He averaged 16 points and 7 assists for his career in which GRCC went 52-15 and won the Western Conference Championship in 1983-84.
After graduating in December of 1989 from Aquinas College with a BA in Education, Selmon worked as an Adult Adolescent Counselor at Glen Beigh Care Unit.
In just his third season of coaching at GRCC, Selmon led his team to the 1995 National Championship game only to fall by just one point, 64-63.
He was named Conference Coach of the Year seven times after winning the Western Conference Championship in 1994-95, 1995-96, 1997-98, 1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01, and 2003-04.
He also coached two Conference Players of the Year: Art Norman in 1996-97 and Jason Moorehead in 1998-99.
Selmon retired following the 2008-09 season, but returned in 2014-15, when he took over for Coach Carnegie after he left the program five games into the season. During that year, Selmon led the Raiders to a Regional Runner-Up finish.
