XC21 Coach Lacy

Garrett Lacy

Lacy begins his first year as head coach of the men's cross country team after serving the last two years as an assistant coach for the Raiders.

In 2019, there were just three members on the men's team at GRCC and after focusing heavily on recruiting, he has helped build the roster to a record number of 16 guys this year.  He also played a key role in the men's first ever MCCAA and Region XII Championship last year, as well as a ninth place finish at Nationals. 

Lacy attended Carson City-Crystal High School where he was a four-time All-State runner, twice in cross country and twice in track and field in the 3200 meter run. He also holds the school record in cross country with a 15:44 and the 3200m run with a 9:24.

While attending Alma College, Lacy made All-Conference all four years in cross country.  He currently is second in school history with a 25:01 in the 8K... In track and field, Lacy was the 2010 MIAA Conference Champion in the 10K.  He also holds the school record in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:50 and is second in school history in the 10K with a time of 31:29.

To this date, Lacy has completed in three marathons (26.2 miles), including the Boston Marathon in 2016 and has a marathon best of 2:40:20.

Between 2014 to 2019, Lacy was the head coach of the cross county team and assistant track and field coach at Cedar Springs High School.  Some of his achievements there included:

Cross Country:
*Grew the roster from nine boys his first year to 20+ runners in his final year
*OK White Conference Champions in 2018
*Regional Champions in 2018
*Back to back Kent County Champions in 2017-18
*Two top 10 finishes in the MHSAA D2 State Finals (10th in 2017 & 7th in 2018)
*Coached two different individual conference champions
*Coached two All-State runners, including a State Runner-Up

Track and Field:
*OK Bronze Conference Champions in 2015
*Coached three individual conference champions in the distance events and two different 4x800 relay conference champion teams
*Coached three individual regional champions in the distance events
*Coached two state champions; Austin Sargent in the 1600m run in 2014 and Kenzie Weiler in the 3200m run in 2015
*Coached boys All-State 4x800 relay team in 2019 (3rd fastest time in school history in 8:01)
*Coached six All-State runners in all the distance events

Lacy currently resides in Cedar Springs and works full-time at Ally Logistics in Grand Rapids while balancing his coaching responsibilities.
