Mike is entering his 7th year as head coach at Grand Rapids Community College. His first stint as assistant coach to Mike Cupples (former GRCC Head Coach) was 2005 to 2008.  That included helping the Raiders to a 2005 National Championship, 2006 Runner-Up finish, and a 2008 4th place finish... He also served as assistant coach to Cupples in 2017 and 2018.

The 1980 graduate of Ionia High School, played football, basketball and baseball.  He was a two year starter in basketball and football, but it was baseball where he gained his greatest recognition.  In his senior year, he was All-Conference, MVP, and All-State.  He was an instrumental part of the Mid-Michigan B Conference Championship team in 1980 that was 21-5, as he established an Ionia RBI record with 28.

Eddington played for the legendary coach Tom Hofmann at GRJC from 1981-1982. The Raiders finished in 6th place in the World Series in Grand Junction, Co. during his Freshman season. In his sophomore year he was named NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention.

After graduating from GRJC, he attended Michigan State University from 1983-1984. In his senior year, Mike earned 1st Team All-Big Ten and 3rd Team All-American honors while serving as the Spartans team
captain. The first baseman was also named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team.  On May 6th, 1984 he broke Kirk Gibson’s single-season record for home runs and runs batted in, pacing the Spartans past Michigan. His 16th and 17th long balls topped Gibson’s 1978 record of 16, while his 53rd RBI bettered Kirk’s mark of 52. Eddington eventually finished the ’84 season with MSU records in home runs (20), RBI (66), runs (59) and total bases (143), and second in slugging percentage (.773) to Al Luplow.

When his collegiate career was over he was drafted in the 16th round by the Oakland A’s.  After his stint in the minor leagues, Mike went on to play for Grand Rapids Sullivan’s team for 11 years, in which the team competed for several World Championships in the Netherlands and the National Championships in Wichita, KS in the NBC World Series.
