Charlie Chanter All-Sport Award

History of Success

The Michigan Community College Athletic Association was founded in 1926 to foster athletic competition among Junior Colleges in Michigan.  As a member of the MCCAA, Grand Rapids Community College regularly competes with the 20 or so teams in the league. Each year, one of those members receives the coveted Charlie Chanter MCCAA All-Sports Trophy.

The Charlie Chanter All-Sports Trophy is awarded each academic year to the school in the MCCAA who has the highest average points each year. Points are awarded to participating schools based on each team’s ranking in a MCCAA-sponsored sport, with bonus points added for teams that finish as a MCCAA champion or runner-up. The award is named after long-time MCCAA Executive Secretary (and GRCC Golf Coach) Charlie Chanter. Grand Rapids Community College has won the Charlie Chanter All-Sports Trophy 17 times since its inception in 1958. To view every single All-Sports winner since 1958, go here
