History of Success

The Raiders have been a part of the MCCAA Conference since the 1975-76 season and a member of the NJCAA since 1974-75. Before then, they were associated with the AIAW (Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women).  The MCCAA has always been split into an Eastern Conference and a Western Conference (which the Raiders are in).  In 2022-23, the MCCAA added a Northern Conference in which the Raiders were apart of for two years until they went back to the West in 2024-25.

Up until 1992, everyone in the conference was classified as NJCAA Division I. Since then, the Raiders have been participated at the NJCAA Division II level.

From 2001 to 2010, the Region was broken up into two districts with teams from the MCCAA and OCCAC.  In 2011 the Region starting sending three teams to nationals with two districts from the MCCAA qualifying for nationals and one team from the OCCAC qualifying for nationals.  In 2020, the Region created a Great Lakes A, B and C district with three teams qualifying for nationals.

Since 1973, the Raiders have won seven Conference Titles and have participated in five National Championship Tournaments, including a fourth place finish in 1974.

Early history shows GRCC's (then Grand Rapids Junior College) basketball team dating back to the early 1920's.  After years of interest their first official team was formed in 1922 by Mrs. McPhettes.  That team consisted of 11 women and they played just one official game, losing 13-8 to the Y.W.C.A.
