Apr. 14, 2026, GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Grand Rapids Community College baseball and softball teams turned in strong performances Tuesday on the road, with baseball earning a high-scoring win over Aquinas College JV and softball grabbing a victory in game one before rain cut short the nightcap at Indiana Tech JV.
Baseball (GRCC 10, Aquinas College JV 8 – 9 innings)
The Raiders pounded out 17 hits and used a balanced effort across the lineup to outlast Aquinas College JV, 10-8, in a scheduled nine-inning contest.
GRCC fell behind early, trailing 3-1, before erupting in the fourth inning. The Raiders opened the frame with five consecutive hits, plating three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Aquinas responded with two runs in the fifth to briefly reclaim the advantage, but GRCC answered immediately with five more hits in the inning to regain the lead for good.
The Raiders added insurance in the sixth inning when Andrew Conrad launched his first home run of the season—a two-run shot over center field. Aquinas mounted a late push with three runs in the ninth, but the comeback came up short.
Jack Lockwood, Aiden Friess, and Gabe Stouffer led the offensive attack with two hits apiece. In total, 21 different Raiders saw action in the game.
On the mound, GRCC utilized five pitchers who combined for 10 strikeouts. Owen Waha made the start, followed by Jansen Douma and Dylan Johnston, who each tossed two innings. Cam Schader worked one inning before Sam Vanneste closed out the final two innings to secure the win.
Softball (Game 1: GRCC 4, Indiana Tech JV 3 | Game 2: Suspended due to rain)
The Raiders opened their doubleheader at Indiana Tech JV with a 4-3 victory, doing all their scoring in the second inning.
GRCC collected three of its five hits in the decisive frame, scoring on RBIs from reigning conference Pitcher of the Week Megan Lillie and Ella Schram, along with a double steal and a wild pitch.
The Raiders carried a 4-0 lead into the final inning before Indiana Tech rallied for three runs. Kalani Stowe entered in relief and recorded the final two outs—including a strikeout to end the game—to earn her first save of the season.
Tia Schone (3-2) earned the win in the circle, pitching 6.1 innings with four strikeouts. She also led the offense, going a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk.
In game two, GRCC jumped out to a 7-2 lead and held a 7-3 advantage in hits before the game was halted in the top of the fifth inning due to rain. Ava VanderKolk went 2-for-2 with an RBI double, while Kellsie Dieterle highlighted the offense with a three-run double.
